80/20 | The Pareto Principle

Image
Hello everyone! Recently, I came across something that made me rethink a lot of my habits and routines. At one point my morning routine took 2 hours and I was looking to cut down on time while maintaining the same amount of effectiveness. And that's when I ran into the 80/20 rule. Have you ever wondered how a tiny fraction of efforts can lead to great results? Well, that's what we're looking at today through the lens of the 80/20 rule also known as the Pareto Principle.  The 80-20 Rule & Its Origin (Vilfredo Pareto): Vilfredo Pareto, was an Italian economist with a knack for unraveling the mysteries of wealth distribution.  Back in the day, Pareto stumbled upon a jaw-dropping realization that 80% of Italy's wealth was controlled by a mere 20% of its population!  He soon recognized a pattern emerging—a relationship where a small fraction of causes produced a lion's share of effects. And thus, the legendary 80-20 rule, named after its insightful creator, was bor...

The Five Hour Rule

I feel like success is a large backdrop for this post, so if you haven't already, check out our post:  The Standard of Success Have you ever wondered what separates the most successful people from the rest of the pack?  Well, it turns out (most of them) share one thing in common: they spend at least five hours a week learning something new.  This phenomenon is known as the Five Hour Rule, and has been gaining popularity in recent years. I was exposed to the idea of the Five Hour Rule through a podcast about productivity.  So in today's post we'll delve into the historical background of the Five Hour Rule, its popularization, and why continuous learning is more crucial than ever and how spending just five hours a week might be a stepping stone to success! A Bit of Background History is the backbone of knowledge!  So, where did this Five Hour Rule come from? Well, there's nothing new under the sun and it turns out that the Five Hour Rule has actually been around f...

To Do Lists & How to Use Them

Image
July 30, 2022 Do you ever find time getting away from you? You look at the clock and wonder where the day went because somehow nothing got done! There are a million different methods and ideas on how to become more efficient, accomplish more, get more done in a day, but for this post, I’m focusing on probably the most common method: a to-do list. What is a To-Do List? It is exactly what it sounds like. A to-do list is a list of things that you need to get done. Usually, they’re made for a specific period of time. For example, you can make up a morning to-do list, or an afternoon to-do list, a daily one, or even weekly if that works better for you. How to Make a To-Do List I think more people don’t use to-do lists because they think that making one takes time. They don’t know what to write down. They find using a to-do list is too confining and “cramps” their style. Yes and no. Like most things, when it comes to to-do lists, you have to find what works for you. If you try to create...

Perfect Timing: The Lie We All Tell Ourselves

Image
July 8, 2022 “I’ve always wanted to _.” “Maybe someday I’ll finally _.” “I wish I could _.” Read that book. Visit that destination. Start a book club. Have a girlfriend/boyfriend. Start a business, etc. You fill in the blank. These are all phrases that we’ve either said or thought at some point in our lives. The things we want to do or experience seem to have a tendency to get pushed to the backburner of our lives with the reasoning that, “I’ll get to it eventually, someday it’ll happen, the timing just isn’t right.” Sound familiar? Well, hold that thought as we take a little detour into what has been going on in my life recently… For the past six months or more, I had been thinking about starting a blog, I just never got around to doing it. For a variety of reasons. I felt like I should be pouring all my attention and energy into finding a solid career job. I felt severely underqualified to be starting a blog because I am not the most tech savvy person. I felt that I should wait ...
